Late Nights in Berlin!

Hi Egos, I'm on vacation this week! I love the extra free time to hang out with friends and do all the things that I usually have to do after work. It's a bit more relaxing although one week isn't enough for me to really calm down.

Anyways I was out in my favourite bar keeping it non-alcoholic. I got to dress up a bit, drink delicious drinks and experiment with my new camera. =)

Pimp My Toilet!

Hi Egos, it's getting intimate today. After yet another long weekend with lots of activities I have an interesting thing to share.

I went to a bar with my sister and a classmate of hers. We had spent all day together running happiliy around town with this cute doggy:

We played a lot, saw a lot and as a result were quite exhausted. We decided to end the day with a drink at a bar. It was one of these typically Berlin-style-bars. You know the ones that look a bit trashy but that you can tell are popular. There were stuffed birds hanging from the ceiling and holiday lights. They showed a screening of Tatort (the german version of CSI) and had more kinds of wine on their menu than cocktails. It was a funny place to be. We chatted on and on.

Drinking has a very common side effect that makes you go to the bathroom once every two hours at least. My sister was the first to go the bathroom that evening and when she returned she said: "You HAVE GOT to check out the bathroom!" Of course I had no idea what she was talking about but I've always been quite interested in the toilets of bars, restaurants, hotels, appartments. The list goes on. Naturally I went there with my camera and guys, this is so incredible! I opened the door and saw this:

Fancy and trashy at the same time :D This is the ladies' room. They have several mirrors and posters on the walls.

It looks more like an altar than a boudoir. :D You have some free wine and sweets there.
Not exactly the sexiest man alive but still funny.

I''m not sure if I should feel inspired by this bathroom interior design. Right now I think it's too much but it certainly was an entertaining experience. :D

Girls' Night Out - The Bars' Red Night!

Hi Egos! Spring has finally decided to grace us with some warmth and there are a lot of outdoor activites planned for the next couple of months!

First on the list was Die Rote Nacht der Bars ( The Bars' Red Night) in Berlin. The main goal of that event was to promote Campari's liquor and try out some new cocktail creations that might dominate this summer. There are 3 cities and 60 Bars participating in this tour. First was Berlin and of course I right in the middle of it. :D

Beforehand I chose 2 bars that I wanted to go to and 1 club. In the end we stayed in the first bar because the programme was too amazing! First they had an incredible DJ, then there were free drinks (their quality was pretty good as well) and then there was a violinist. The atmosphere was really great and the audience quite international.

These look amazing don't they?!
There was a promoter running around the bar, telling everyone about the Bars' Red Night and handing out these little bracelets so that we could use the shuffle bus that would take us from one participating bar to another. Unfortunately we didn't get to ride in one but we got this free polaroid photo.

By the way I love the troll in the back :D
Later we met up with a few girls and danced the night away to some pretty heavy hip hop/r'n'b! It was super fun and I'm so glad that Im living in a city that constantly offers these kinds of events! This summer is going to be sooooo much better than last year :D

EGOtalk: Expectation vs. Reality!

Hi Egos, the day before yesterday my sister and I went out. The plan was to attend a club opening where they were giving out grilled steaks and stuff. Afterwards we wanted to go to a club and dance away what we had eaten. We had a plan that promised a great night out. So we dolled up and were on our way to the first part of the evening.

As we reached the location we noticed that the lights were turned off. Apparently my dear sister had gotten the time wrong. So we were 2 hours early. -.-" We didn't want to go home again so we decided to go to a bar at least. I wasn't in the mood to experiment any further so we just went to a bar that I liked. It's actually more of a biker-scene-bar. The clientele is made of a lot of people wearing black and many guys with a ponytail (not really my type :D). It's the kind of people that don't care what you look like.

I thought the night would now go in a direction that I could influence but I was wrong again. The last time I went to that bar was my first time trying this drink called Hugo. I bet a lot of you know that cocktail already since it was THE cocktail in 2011. It's made of champagne, elder syrup, mint and lime juice. It was so incredibly delicious that it soon became my second favourite drink. So what I was expecting was this:

Back then it even looked quite similar to this picture... But what I got instead was this:

Dear barkeeper, You shouldn't serve a wine glass with a straw for EGO's sake! The balance between those ingredients was totally wrong and my party mood was nowhere to be found. Defeated we went home that night. The only good part was that I met a guy from work and he had quite a funny story to tell about him being scouted for an escort service :D

On our way I really thought about expectations vs. reality. You'll never know for sure what is going to happen but to some degree you can get a pretty good picture of it. Normally my predictions turn out to be true but that night was just a disaster. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Next time will be way better! I wouldn't be me if I let this one incident spoil all the fun I'm supposed to have. ;-)

EGOutfit: Time to be badass!

Yesterday I went out to this bar called Butcher's. I had planned to go there for a while now since it seemed quite unique and all. However I didn't feel like going there in a chic outfit. I was in the mood for a little something like this:

I wanted just a tiny bit of that bad girl attitude and I think I'll sport that look even more when it gets warmer. I've got some pretty badass clothes stocked in my closet waiting to be worn outside. But let's stop with the chit-chat and get to the final look. ;-)

Part 1 of the bad girl theme is that bandana. I really love the look it gives you. Reminds me of old-school rap music. :D (Notice the penguin trolling my pic? :D)

Part 2 are the statement necklaces. I recently noticed that it's quite fashionable to pair up 2 necklaces. I think that's a cool thing to do and those 2 here look quite badass. :-P

Part 3 is the arm candy. Not much to add :D

Part 4 is clothes. First up: sorry about the quality. I was a bit late already when I took that photo. :-P I'm wearing a denim shirt over a t-shirt with a pop-art from the series Dallas. I never watched that but I like the pic anyways. Black shorts with a black pantihose and black knee socks. The latter really kept me warm! Finally I stepped into black boots and was ready to go. :-)

The friend I went with to the bar said she thinks the look is more like the modern pin-up girl looks but who cares :D I felt pretty badass and that's all that counts.

You've got to have some favourites!

As I mentioned before I went out with my friend Lisa today. I had looked up this wine bar online that had received a lot of praise. It's called Die Legende von Paula und Ben which literally means the legend of paula and ben and is in the center of Berlin. I am not the best in finding my way to a place that I've never been before. I can find it easily again the second time but first times are usually quite adventurous. :-D Anyways with some directions from Lisa over the phone and after an unnecessarily long walk I stood in front of the bar. It promised to be cosy even from the outside. The interior is quite neutral with a hint of a male decorator and some oldschool elegance.

From then on everything was perfect! The atmosphere was just right, the barkeeper was friendly and extremly good in what he was doing. The drinks he made could make you forget that you actually wanted to spend this night sober. He sure had a lot of alcohol to work with! The picture below doesn't even include the wines they have in the cellar!

I ordered a virgin mojito with my last bit of self-control while Lisa - she has a rather sweet and creamy tooth- went for a pina colada. Watching him create our drinks was almost as delicious as the final results. Here is the proof:

We even got those two shots for free. I think they are some sort of daiquiri. If I hadn't been in love with the bar right from the beginning this would have been the moment to turn my heart over. :-P

This bar will definitely be my first choice for a relaxed evening on weekends. I would even go there on a first date with a guy. Next time I want to see what it's like when it's more crowded. I guess  I will also need to hear this legend about paula and ben. :D

Until next time,
C U Egos!
